The Ghanaian Police have revealed the identities of seven suspects who escaped from prison with the assistance of some armed robbers who stormed a Police Station and shot dead the officer on duty in the process.
The suspects on the run are;
One police officer sustained gunshot wounds during the raid but unfortunately passed on whilst receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. The police said the suspects are being pursued with all the urgency it deserves.
The Ghanaian press on Tuesday, highlighted the police bounty put on the head of some armed men who invaded a police station in Accra on Sunday morning.
The suspected armed robbers, shot and killed an officer in charge of the station at the time, Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, and freed some seven prisoners, thereby creating public anxiety.
It was gathered that the police have put a $3,400 (GH¢15,000) bounty on the heads of the escapees, whose pictures are published in the middle pages of the newspaper.
The Police said Akwabu and Dickson were on remand for robbery while Darko was held for possessing firearm without authority with Rockson in cage for stealing. The rest were held for other offences.
The Director-General of Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, said that the freed criminals are dangerous to the public and appealed for public support to nab them.
“We need the cooperation of the public in fighting crime, any attack on the police is an attack on the community at large,” he added.
